Key Curriculum Press Earns Two BESSIE Awards

New Department Focused on Building Partnerships with Educational Leaders

Emeryville, Calif. (April 22, 2010)Key Curriculum Press has been honored with two 2010 BESSIE Awards for The Geometer’s Sketchpad® and Tinkerplots™ Dynamic Data Exploration. For 16 years, the Best Educational Software (BESSIE) Awards have been presented by ComputED Learning Center, targeting content-rich programs and Web sites that provide teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence.

The Geometer’s Sketchpad is designed to boost mathematical understanding through dynamic, interactive visualization. By allowing students to build and investigate their own constructions, the software program offers a hands-on learning experience that leads to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts, and greater retention of the material. Also, the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics’ standards explicitly recommends the use of dynamic geometry.

TinkerPlots Dynamic Data Exploration makes it easy for teachers to integrate data analysis into their current curriculum, and meet both state standards for effective technology use, and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ recommendations for data analysis. Through instruction with TinkerPlots Dynamic Data Exploration, students develop a strong understanding of how to interpret numerical data through graphical representation.

The winners for this year’s BESSIE Awards were selected from titles submitted by software publishers around the world. Products were chosen based on academic content, potential for broad classroom use, technical merit, subject approach, and management system.
