Emeryville, Calif. (April 20, 2010) – Key Curriculum Press introduces a new implementation department, which will support schools during the sales and adoption processes to ensure success as they transition to inquiry-based learning. Sandy Berger and Werner Garciano will join the implementation department as Mathematics Curriculum Specialists for Key Curriculum Press.
“The knowledge Sandy and Werner bring to the team is invaluable,” said Tim Pope, Curriculum Director for Key Curriculum Press. “Their experience of helping leaders, teachers and students increase math achievement will be a crucial asset to our team as we provide schools with quality mathematics materials and implementation support.”
Berger is the former Managing Editor of School Journals for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She brings a vast amount of teaching experience at the middle school, high school and university level. For more than 20 years, she taught mathematics in low socio-economic high schools in Florida’s Leon and Gadsden counties.
In addition, Berger has designed and delivered professional development for 15 years, both nationally and internationally. She also served as mathematics curriculum specialist for the Florida Department of Education as well as the Southeast Regional Eisenhower Consortium.
Garciano brings both teaching and technology experience to the team. Most recently, he served as Director of Professional Development for Texas Instruments’ Education Technology division. In this role, Garciano oversaw the development and delivery of math and science curriculum using Texas Instruments’ technology.
As a teacher, Garciano served as the chairperson of the Mathematics Department at Tamalpais High School in California. He also served as a mathematics facilitator for the district, serving as a liaison between the teachers and the associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
Berger earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education at Florida State University, a master’s degree in Mathematics Education at Florida A&M University and a doctorate in Mathematics Education at Florida State University. She also has a certificate in gifted and talented education. Garciano earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in Education from Stanford University.
