Emeryville, Calif. (June 12, 2009) – Seattle Public Schools has selected mathematics textbooks published by Key Curriculum Press® for Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. Last month the Seattle Public Schools Board of Directors approved six mathematics textbooks – five from Key Curriculum Press® including the Discovering Mathematics series, plus Precalculus with Trigonometry and Calculus – for classroom use starting this fall.
“Our selection committee recommended the Key Curriculum Press textbooks because these books provide appropriate balance between skill development, conceptual understanding and problem solving,” said Anna-Maria de la Fuente, K-12 Mathematics Director for Seattle Public Schools. “Seattle Public Schools needs rigorous mathematics textbooks, well-aligned with our state standards, that will prepare our diverse student population for success in college and life.”
The Discovering Mathematics series consists of Discovering Algebra, Discovering Geometry and Discovering Advanced Algebra. Precalculus with Trigonometry and Calculus were written by Paul Foerster, a Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.
“We respect the hard work of the Seattle Public Schools’ textbook selection committee and Board of Directors during the selection process,” said Karen Coe, president of Key Curriculum Press. “We look forward to working in partnership with Seattle’s school leaders to ensure a successful implementation.”
