Fourier Systems Honored With 2008 BESSIE Award

ComputED Gazette Recognizes MultiLab Software in Post-Secondary Science Category

New Albany, Ind. (May 21, 2008) – Recognizing the company’s advancements in developing high-quality educational science software, the ComputED Gazette has honored Fourier Systems with a 2008 Best Educational Software Award (BESSIE).

The BESSIE was given for the company’s software program, MultiLab, which is available on the MultiLog, MultiLogPRO, TriLog, and TriLink data loggers as well as the Nova5000, in the category of Post-Secondary: Science. MultiLab is a comprehensive program that allows users to collect data, display data in graphs, meters and tables, analyze data with sophisticated analysis tools, and even view online or recorded videos of the actual science experiment. The program includes four displays: graph, table, video, and a navigation display called the Data Map.

In addition, Fourier Systems has recently modified its MultiLab data analysis software to aid elementary school teachers to teach important science concepts. Most young scientists need to learn about data measurement and analysis through clearly defined stages, understanding ‘change in data’ and building on these skills to understand ‘measurement over time.’ MultiLab now features brightly colored bar, clock, digital and color meters to represent data, illustrating measurement to beginning users. One of the best tools to illustrate these basic concepts is the temperature probe, which young scientists can measure data using concepts they already know, such as determining hot versus cold.

Also honored with a 2007 EDDIE Award, the ComputED Gazette and award program review stated: “MultiLab software sets a new benchmark. It is simple to use, yet complex in its array of data collection and processing abilities. As in the saying: what you hear, you forget; what you see you remember; and what you do, you understand – students will be remembering and understanding far more with [MultiLab].”

This is the 14th year of the Annual Best Educational Software Awards (BESSIES). The ComputED Gazette and Computer Learning Lab, San Diego’s leading computer education resource, sponsor the award program. Targeting innovative and content-rich programs and websites that provide parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence, the program selects winners from titles submitted by digital resource publishers from around the world.
