Silver Spring, Md. (April 2, 2009) – Educators worldwide are invited to join online and in-person on Saturday, April 25, 2009, for the fourth Discovery Educator Network Virtual Conference. Sponsored by Discovery Education, this April’s Virtual Conference theme is Spring Into Action. The high-quality, professional development seminars scheduled for this event will focus on providing attendees the skills and techniques they need to leap into the world of digital content and educational technology and maximize these tools to improve student achievement.
This unique professional development opportunity is presented by the Discovery Educator Network (DEN), a community of more than 88,000 active educators supported by Discovery Education. Members of the DEN are passionate about integrating media into classroom curriculum and collaborating with each other to improve student achievement. DEN members across the country will be hosting in-person gatherings complementing the online sessions hosted by Discovery Education staff.
The Discovery Educator Network Virtual Conference is scheduled to feature a presentation by Chris Lehmann, Principal of the Science Leadership Academy in the School District of Philadelphia. Entitled Building School 2.0, Lehmann’s presentation will examine ideas of constructivist pedagogy and the use of 21st century tools to create schools that are engaging, caring and relevant places of learning for everyone involved.
In addition, nationally known Discovery Education speakers, including Lance Rougeux, Brad Fountain, and Matt Monjan also will offer sessions on topics including engaging students with digital media, using formative assessment to monitor and improve student achievement, and using data to differentiate instruction.
These informative sessions will be delivered via webcast to conference attendees worldwide. Those attending in-person gatherings of the Discovery Educator Network Virtual Conference will participate in these online presentations, as well as breakout sessions presented by local STAR Discovery Educators.
“Having attended professional development sessions conducted by the Discovery Educator Network in the past, I can attest to their value,” said Eric Lehew, Assistant Superintendent, Learning Support Services, Poway Unified School District. “I encourage teachers and administrators to participate in the upcoming Virtual Conference and learn more about how to maximize their digital resources, and about how they can get involved with the Discovery Educator Network.”
